China Film Day

The Nepal Film and Cultural Academy (NFCA), in collaboration with the China Film Administration, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal, and the China Film Archive, successfully organized the inaugural China Film Day on January 9, 2025, at QFX Chhaya Center, Thamel, Kathmandu.

Purpose and Significance

China Film Day was organized as part of the broader cultural exchange program to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China and the celebration of Visit Nepal Year in China. The event aimed to:

• Promote mutual understanding through cinematic storytelling.

• Introduce contemporary Chinese films to Nepali audiences.

• Foster collaboration between the film industries of both countries.

Featured Films

Three highly acclaimed Chinese films were screened:

1. Her Story – Directed by Shao Yihui

2. Midsummer’s Voice – Directed by Zhang Yudi

3. G for Gap – Directed by Long Fei

Each film highlighted unique themes and artistic styles, offering audiences a glimpse into the diversity of modern Chinese cinema.

Special Guests and Delegations

• Chief Guest: Hon. Barshaman Pun, Member of Parliament and former Finance Minister

• Chinese Delegation: Led by Mr. Xu Yang, Director of the International Division, China Film Administration

• Special Guest: Renowned Chinese actress Yu Hong, winner of two Golden Rooster Awards

• Nepali Film Personalities: Mr. Nir Shah, Mr. Sunil Thapa, and Mr. Kedar Ghimire (Magne Buda) were among the notable attendees.

Interactive Sessions

Post-screening Q&A sessions were conducted with the filmmakers and cast members. These interactions created a platform for cultural dialogue, film appreciation, and discussion on future cooperation.
