03 / Frequently asked

Before you write.

Do I have to pay to submit a Nepali film?
No. All three national categories at NIFF — feature, documentary and shorts — are free to submit at every deadline. KHFF charges standard fees in all categories, with reduced student rates.
My film premiered at another festival. Can I still enter?
Yes, provided it has not screened publicly in Nepal. NIFF prioritises films holding at least Nepal Premiere status by the festival date, and KHFF requires it. Films already screened at a past edition of NIFF do not qualify.
Does NFCA pay screening fees or travel?
Neither festival has a policy of paying screening fees. Selected filmmakers are hosted during the festival where possible; travel confirmation is requested as part of the post-selection materials.
I want to shoot in Nepal. Where do I start?
Write to us with your shooting window, locations of interest and crew size. The first consultation is free and covers permits, seasons, feasibility and local crew. Talent and HR scouting assistance is also provided free of charge.
Can our embassy or institution run a film day with NFCA?
Yes. NFCA has produced Film Days and showcases with the China Film Administration, the Russian House and other cultural bodies. Tell us your date range, the films or theme you have in mind, and your audience — we handle curation, venue, technical production, hospitality, press and documentation.
How do I volunteer or join the community sessions?
The monthly interaction sessions are free and open to anyone, with no prerequisites. Volunteers are recruited ahead of each festival, mostly from Nepal’s film schools — send us a short note about what you would like to work on.

The office is a ten-minute drive north of Thamel. Call ahead during festival months — the team is often at a venue rather than a desk.
