SUMMARY:Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) 2025
DESCRIPTION:Nepal International Film Festival is Nepal’s biggest film and media event\, with the most audiences and filmmakers involved. NIFF is a non-profit event dedicated to promoting the authentic identity of Nepali cinema and\, at the same time\, promoting close ties between Nepali and foreign film communities at large. NFCA has the 1st to 8th iterations of the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) under its belt\, the most recent of which was conducted in March2025and was a grand success. NIFF is an annual event\, first inaugurated in August 2018 in Pokhara. Subsequent 2nd to 8th iterations of the festivals have been held in Kathmandu.

SUMMARY:China Film Day
DESCRIPTION:The Nepal Film and Cultural Academy (NFCA)\, in collaboration with the China Film Administration\, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal\, and the China Film Archive\, successfully organized the inaugural China Film Day on January 9\, 2025\, at QFX Chhaya Center\, Thamel\, Kathmandu. \nPurpose and Significance\nChina Film Day was organized as part of the broader cultural exchange program to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China and the celebration of Visit Nepal Year in China. The event aimed to: \n\n\nPromote mutual understanding through cinematic storytelling. \n\n\nIntroduce contemporary Chinese films to Nepali audiences. \n\n\nFoster collaboration between the film industries of both countries. \n\n\nFeatured Films\nThree highly acclaimed Chinese films were screened: \n\n\nHer Story – Directed by Shao Yihui \n\n\nMidsummer’s Voice – Directed by Zhang Yudi \n\n\nG for Gap – Directed by Long Fei \n\n\nEach film highlighted unique themes and artistic styles\, offering audiences a glimpse into the diversity of modern Chinese cinema. \nSpecial Guests and Delegations\n\n\nChief Guest: Hon. Barshaman Pun\, Member of Parliament and former Finance Minister \n\n\nChinese Delegation: Led by Mr. Xu Yang\, Director of the International Division\, China Film Administration \n\n\nSpecial Guest: Renowned Chinese actress Yu Hong\, winner of two Golden Rooster Awards \n\n\nNepali Film Personalities: Mr. Nir Shah\, Mr. Sunil Thapa\, and Mr. Kedar Ghimire (Magne Buda) were among the notable attendees. \n\n\nInteractive Sessions\nPost-screening Q&A sessions were conducted with the filmmakers and cast members. These interactions created a platform for cultural dialogue\, film appreciation\, and discussion on future cooperation. \nRemarks from NFCA\nMr. KP Pathak\, Chairperson of NFCA\, stated: \n\n“This event has laid the foundation for long-term collaboration between the film industries of Nepal and China. China Film Day is not just a cultural program—it is a gateway for learning\, sharing\, and creating together.” \n\nFuture Prospects\nNFCA aims to expand such initiatives through: \n\n\nJoint film festivals and screenings in different provinces of Nepal. \n\n\nWorkshops and training programs with Chinese film experts. \n\n\nOpportunities for Nepali films to enter Chinese markets through co-productions and distribution partnerships. \n\n\nConclusion\nThe first China Film Day in Kathmandu marks a significant step forward in enhancing cultural ties between Nepal and China. NFCA is committed to continuing such meaningful collaborations that promote creative exchange and cultural harmony.

SUMMARY:Screenwriting Workshop 2019
DESCRIPTION:Nepal Film and Cultural Academy understand the importance of great writers and screenplay talent for the development of Nepal’s film and media sector and enhancing cultural export\, and with its comprehensive Screenwriting Workshop\, aims to help fill the talent shortfall in this area. The last comprehensive Screenwriting Workshop was held in Chitlang village (Makwanpur). This 7-day closed-camp workshop involved 70 talented writers and filmmakers from the Nepali film and media scene\, and also facilitated a series of filmwriting classes\, panels talks\, exchanges\, field visits and so on. This was one of Nepal’s biggest film writing workshops (period) with renowned screenwriters Mr. Robin Bhatt (from India) and Mr. Jeff Monahan (from the USA) as mentors. The event also hosted programs by Nepal’s top film writers like Abhimanyu Nirabi and Shivam Adhikari\, sessions with veterans like Neer Shah\, and interactions with successes like Deepak Raj Giri\, Deepa Shri and Kedar Ghimire.
